Freaky Vintage Friday - On Sunday....

Just arrived home from a week in the Canadian Maritimes - Nova Scotia to be exact.  Absolutely beautiful, quaint and endearing places to visit and eat seafood.  Had a great time, now it's back to reality. 

This week's freaky vintage image shows how comfortable people were with ratial inferences way back when.  The caption shows the nice and clean, well-dressed white child holding a bar of Fairy Soap and asking the bedraggled, dirty black child, "Why doesn't your mamma wash you with Fairy Soap?"  The look on the black child's face says it all.....

This Friday's Freaky Vintage image is something to make the 'lil missus' happy...... happy about what I don't know.  Judging by the way she's petting the thing, she obviously has a wonderful imagination..... a puppy perhaps??  Anyway, no husband in his right mind in this century would even dream of buying his partner a cleaning appliance for Christmas... and live to tell about it.

Not everything vintage was beautiful or romantic and certainly some of the vintage advertising was sexist, racist, creepy and sometimes just downright horrible!  Often the advertising was simply ignorant and without the benefit of years of study.  Today's Freaky Friday Vintage image is an advertisement for - believe it or not - Dr. Batty's Asthma Cigarettes.  It expounds on the wonderful health effects of smoking this product.  Thank God it wasn't recommended for children under the age of 6!

I don't know why anywone would want this as a poster, but if you do, I'd be happy to oblige.
